| About the Artist Shana Salaff expresses her quirky and original style in a wide range of dynamic and vivacious pottery. She is the creative force behind Wareshana Pottery. Shana is a graduate of the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, Halifax, NS, as well as the School of Crafts and Design, Sheridan College, in Oakville ON. She didn’t make a childhood decision to be a potter, but her work is certainly influenced by childhood memories of being surrounded by beautiful objects, especially the sunflower dinnerware, and the curtains and scarves created by her great aunt, well-known American designer, Vera. Her interest in pottery started in 1991, while was working at the Clay Design collective in Toronto, Ontario and then grew as she attended Sheridan College’s School of Crafts and Design in Oakville, Ontario. In 1995, Shana moved to Halifax attend NSCAD University, taking a double major in painting and pottery. She decided on pottery as a career, while infusing her work with a painterly sensibility. "My work is colourful, with an elegance in form and shape which often incorporates playful movement or pattern. I like to have lots of things going at the same time," says Shana. "Each piece is functional and can also be enjoyed as piece of art in its own right. My pottery is definitely not boring." Shana works from her pottery/studio shop a historic Church of England building in downtown Halifax, complete with neo-Gothic windows, architectural detailing and a turret. Wareshana creates beautiful and unique porcelain pottery that is a delight to use. Wareshana pottery is colourful, bold and alive. Each piece is infused with a sense of personality and joie du vivre!
